Reflections on Last Weekend’s Retreat

Last weekend’s retreat was nothing short of life-changing for me. As much as I guide and teach, I am constantly learning—about myself, about the art of holding space, and about the infinite layers of connection we share with each other and the environment around us. This retreat was a powerful reminder of the depth and beauty that unfolds when we allow ourselves to be fully present.

Teaching as a Journey of Learning

In every yoga class I lead, I am not just teaching—I am observing, feeling, and responding. The energy of the room constantly shifts, and my role is to guide it in the direction that best serves the group. On retreat, this dynamic deepens. Beyond yoga, I’m attuned to every workshop, every activity, and even the quiet moments in between. I’m always asking myself: Who needs my help? Who needs their space? Are they receiving that space? This constant re-assessment is an act of service, a way of ensuring that everyone feels seen, supported, and free to explore their journey.

The Responsibility of Holding Space

Holding space is a profound responsibility, and it’s one I approach with deep respect. I feel incredibly supported by the natural environment, which plays such a significant role in the retreats I host. The mountain’s energy is a powerful presence, and I spend a lot of time asking for its permission to hold space there. I believe wholeheartedly in the spirits of the land and their role in creating the sacred container for our work.

I invite my guests to do the same—to ask, either silently or out loud, for the land’s assistance in their journey. This act of asking sets the tone for a deeper connection, grounding us in the present moment and opening pathways for transformation.

Witnessing Transformation

One of the greatest joys of this work is witnessing the incredible transformation that occurs over just a few days. This past weekend, I couldn’t have been prouder of the group of incredible individuals who showed up with such vulnerability and courage. From the moment we began on Friday to the closing circle on Sunday, it was a pleasure to watch their journeys unfold.

The growth, the sharing, the moments of laughter and tears—every part of it was deeply moving. Seeing the lightness and clarity on their faces as they left was a reminder of why I love what I do.

Gratitude for the Journey

To everyone who joined me last weekend: thank you for trusting me to hold space for your journey. Your courage and openness inspire me, and I am so grateful to have shared this sacred time with you. To the mountain, the spirits of the land, and the energy that surrounds us: thank you for your support and guidance. Hosting these retreats is not just my work—it is my joy, my purpose, and my continual source of growth.

Here’s to many more moments of connection, transformation, and deep gratitude. Until next time.

With love and light,
Sophie
